iPad VS Computer?

Yesterday Apple officially announced a 128GB version of the fourth generation iPad. The new iPad doubles the storage capacity of the previous one and prices will range from $799 to (Wi-Fi model) to $929 (Wi-Fi + Cellular model). According to Apple’s senior vice president of Worldwide Marketing, Philip Schiller, “With twice the storage capacity…enterprises, educators, and artists have even more reasons to use iPad for all their business and personal needs.” While the iPad can be a very useful tool, could it really be a viable replacement for a laptop or desktop computer? It definitely depends on the needs of the individual or business, but for me personally the iPad is nowhere near close to being a replacement for my macbook pro. While there are some apps that are comparable between the two and there is an abundance of IOS applications, there are some features and applications on my macbook that really can’t be competed with at the moment.

So what are your thoughts? Would you be able to replace your computer with an iPad (or any tablet)?

  1. No. While the Ipads and tablets are great, I still prefer sitting at a desk and typing on either a desktop or laptop computer. I'm not ready to give that up yet.
